Big Brothers Big Sisters looking for volunteers

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster are looking for more hands to help them with mentoring and fundraising as they come into the summer months.

Director of Service Delivery Jacqueline Weed says there are two areas in the agency that could use more volunteers.

“We have the side that volunteers with the children as big brothers and big sisters and mentors in our programs. We also have a side that I’m not sure everyone that everyone always realizes we have, which is the fundraising side that supports those programs.”

Currently, the organization has 48 mentor and 39 children on the waiting list. Weed says the children need somebody to guide them and to have fun with them while helping them develop new interests.

“Having somebody in their lives that’s that consistent and positive role model has a huge effect on them. It keeps them in school and hopefully helps them make the positive choices when they’re on that path making those decisions at the park and things like that of what activities to do.”

To become a volunteer call the office at 306 825 5757 and the staff will start the process from there. Weed adds that there are no special skills required for people interested and they provide all the necessary training. The agency is also recruiting board members.
