Wildrose’s Danny Hozack attacks government’s fiscal policy

Vermilion-Lloydminster Wildrose Party candidate Danny Hozack is attacking the Progressive Conservative government’s debt.

In a press release issued Wednesday, April 15, Hozack said that if the PC budget were to stand, the stated deficit plan would increase Alberta’s debt to $30 billion by 2019. He says that the interest on that debt would cost households between $1,700 and $2,000 a year, with nothing in return.

“If the Prentice budget is allowed to stand, in just a few years annual interest is going to cost taxpayers between 1 ½ and 2 billion dollars a year,” Hozack said. “That’s the equivalent of about 30 Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centres every year, year after year.

In their own budget, the Wildrose promise to balance the books by 2017 by reducing spending and cutting government administrative staff.
