Brittania-Wilton Fire Department issues fire ban

The Brittania-Wilton Fire Department has issued a fire ban.

Over the past week, the department has dealt with fiveĀ fires due to extremely dry conditions. Four fires were grass fires,Ā with three coming close to the railroad tracks.

Fire Captain Aaron Buckingham says that all fires in the municipalities of Brittania and Wilton must be in a pit covered by a grate to keep ashes and other debris from spreading. All other kinds of fires have been banned until further notice.

Buckingham also says that while showers are in the forecast this weekend, rain is needed to bring the level of danger down.
