The Pilot Program which allows trucks to increase the weight on their wide-base single tires is being extended by the Government of Saskatchewan.
The one-year extension will also allow truck drivers to use all paved National Highway Systems in the province. The pilot allows truckers to increase the weight on the wide-base tires from 3,800 kg to just over 4,200 kg. All vehicles will be required to carry a copy of the permit and follow weight restrictions.
Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit says the extension will be granted until the government finalizes fee and administration processes for wide-base single tires.
“We are pleased to continue working with the Saskatchewan trucking industry to help reduce their operating costs and effect on greenhouse gas emissions to our environment,”
Once the pilot is done, a fee will be collected to use WBST above 3,850 kg, this cost will be used to cover any damages caused to the highway system.
