Pig carnage result of transport truck braking too hard

A transport truck carrying dead pigs was heading westbound out of Lloydminster when it hit the brakes too hard leaving pig carnage on the side of the road.

On Wednesday, Lloydminster residents got a whiff of dead pigs while travelling out of the city around 80th Avenue on Highway 16.  Sgt. Sarah Knelsen says the carnage was due to a truck transporting the dead pigs braking at a light on route to Edmonton.

“It was a transport truck that had two trailers hooked together and the pigs that were in the second trailer the braking caused them to come to the front of the trailer and spill overtop of the net that was on top of the truck.”

The incident happened around 11:30 and was cleaned up just before 1 p.m.

“The pigs that were on the scene, there was some whole pigs and then there were also parts of pigs so it’s really hard to determine the amount of actual pigs that were laying on the side of the highway, but there was quite a bit of pig carnage,” says Knelsen.

It is still undetermined why there were so many pigs and what their purpose was.
