Person injured after shots fired in the Battlefords

Battlefords RCMP have arrested a man after shots were fired at an apartment in Winder Crescent injuring a person.

On Saturday, RCMP received a complaint of a person arriving at the Battlefords Union Hospital with injuries that were consistent with being shot. Following the complaint, RCMP went to the apartment where the shots were being fired.

RCMP say the victim had a serious injury that looked like it came from a small calibre firearm. The person was later transferred to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon for further medical treatment and is now recovering.

The investigation revealed that 28-year old David Soonias fired the shots and knew the victim, as well as others inside the apartment. Soonias has been charged with discharge a firearm with intent, discharge a firearm while being reckless, aggravated assault, possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a restricted firearm while prohibited and possession of weapons contrary to a prohibition order.

RCMP have recovered and seized a number of firearms as evidence.
