Lakeland College’s athletic director becomes 13th president of CCAA

Lakeland College’s athletic director hopes to make a difference with a new position as the 13th president of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association.

Alan Rogan has been elected into a new national role after serving as the president for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. The two-year term as the CCAA president will see Rogan leading all the executives in Canada, as well as overseeing the association.

“When I was president of the ACAC I got to work with athletic directors across our conference and our province and now I get to work with athletic directors and leaders across Canada. I kind of look at it as professional development, you get to see what other people who do similar work do across the country.”

Rogan has spent over a decade with Lakeland in various capacities including coach of the men’s volleyball team. He says his experience at the college will be a definite asset as he enters into a new role.

“One of the things I’ve definitely learned is to make sure you listen to all sides and you need to have some flexibility. I’ve learned a lot over the years at the college, a lot to do with leadership and how to work with different groups of people.”

Reviewing the association governance structure and working towards implementing a nation responsible coaching program are some of the things Rogan will work on as the CCAA president. He will continue to work with student athletes at Lakeland while taking on the volunteer position.
