Golf Fore the Cure proceeds go to cancer research

The Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre is having their first ever Golf Fore the Cure and all money from the event will go towards breast cancer research and support programs.

Golf Fore the Cure is a national event through the PGA of Canada. The event on July 17th at the Golf and Curling centre will coincide with ladies night that will include a 9 hole event, a meal and silent auction. If anyone wants to sign up for the charity event you can call the LGCC pro shop at (306)-825-3406.

Manager of the Golf and Curling Centre Marty Wheaton says that the community support has been one of the reasons why they are throwing the event.

” Typical are normal ladies night would probably be 50 to 60 golfers and this one should be 80 to 100. The women in the community are really getting behind the event and supporting it.”

Wheaton adds the goal is to be in the top for funds raised in Canada.

“What we’re trying to do is be top five in the country that was our goal for raising funds. If we get anywhere between that  five and eight thousand dollar mark we will probably be in the top five or top three in the country.”

The LGCC has many events through the year raising money for charity. Wheaton says earlier this year they raised $20,000 for Cystic Fibrosis.

“Golf is one of the best ways of raising funds for charity and it actually raised more funds for charity than all professional sports combined.”
