Women in Lloydminster can have their agriculture work highlighted

Women in Lloydminster in the agriculture industry have a chance to get their story out in a new documentary.

The new documentary ‘Picture a farmer’ is the newest production from Lindisfarne Productions a video production company based out of Edmonton and Maple Ridge, B.C. The documentary aims to focus on women in agriculture and the changing of that role over time.

The documentary is about female empowerment and inspiring people to go forward with their passion for agriculture. Director of Picture a Farmer Kelsey Van Moorsel says often times men are synonymous in peoples minds as farmers.

“Women have always been involved in the farm as well. This highlights that women are taking leadership roles and managing their own operations. They’re doing some great work too.”

The film is currently in the early development stages, they’re looking for funding and anyone who wants to be involved in the film.

“We have applied for a grant with Telus Story Hive. Some of those grants will be given on the bases of community votes, they will have voting July 30th to Agust 2nd. We’re trying to get as much community support as possible to get hopefully get it made.”

Filming could take place as early as this September and run into next year. The film could possibly see a release by May 2019. Van Moorsel and the production company is looking for anyone in the province who wants to be involved in the film to contact them by going to the film’s website.

“We are trying to get a wide variety of people across the province. We spoke to a woman in Taber, another woman in Cluny, Alberta, someone in Wetaskiwin and a lady from St.Paul. We’re are still looking for people who have great stories. We want to show as wide a spectrum as possible.”
