Lloydminster Bobcats looking for families to house players

The Lloydminster Bobcats are looking for billets for the upcoming season.

Business Manager Kat Pollard says the team usually has three or four local players and the rest of the players, which is about 18 to 20 are from out of town and need billets.

In order for a family to be able to take in a player, there is one main requirement.

“We usually ask that they live in close proximity to Lloydminster either in the city or just slightly outside for proximity sake for the arena and not a lot of travel. Other than that it’s basically willing to have somebody come in and live in your house for about five or six months,” says Pollard.

Pollard says the Bobcats main camp starts around August 25 every year and that is when the players come into town. Depending on how the team does in the playoffs the players will stay until March or possibly April.

In return for allowing the people to stay in a home, the family will be compensated in various ways.

“They get monetary compensation per month, a stipend to help with the cost of food for providing for the billets. We give them discounts at certain businesses, certain sponsors that we have around town and then they each get season tickets for the whole season for the games.”

Pollard says the team is getting close to reaching their capacity of billets.
