Onion Lake RCMP arrest escaped prisoner

RCMP arrest a 20-year-old man who had escaped a corrections work camp.

Around 1 p.m. on Monday, Onion Lake RCMP received complaints of a suspicious male approaching vehicles on a road outside of the First Nations. The man fled when officers found him by a truck that was reported as stolen. Turtleford RCMP and Police Dog Services were called in to help.

RCMP found out after arresting the man a couple hours later that he had escaped from a  low-security, provincial corrections work-camp. He had suffered from minor injuries due to a PDS dog bite and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The 20-year-old has been charged with Driving while prohibited and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He remains in custody and will appear in Onion Lake Provincial Court on August 1, 2018.
