Local business might be in risk of closing doors

Lloydminster first and only indoor batting cage is at risk of closing down.

Heavy Hitters Cages and Training started up in 2017 as a way to give the baseball community in Lloydminster another place to hone their skills. Owner Brett Chambers says the past couple months have been slow which has put the business at risk.

” When we first opened it was absolutely unreal, it was very busy. The winter programs were our busiest time.”

During the winter, the company would have training programs that would help players get ready for the upcoming season. Chambers played for AAA Iowa Cubs which is a farm team of the MLB’s Chicago Cubs.

” I thought this would be a great idea because this has always been a dream of mine. Since my career didn’t end up how I wanted it, I moved into training these kids so they have the opportunities I did and didn’t have.”

Multiple Slo-pitch tournament and baseball teams call Lloydminster home. Chambers says that his company has a place in the community.

“It breaks a guys heart. Not only for myself but for this community with all the kids I’ve been able to train and help through their season and winter already. This facility has its purpose.”
