Lloydminster RCMP reminding residents to be safe ahead of long weekend

The Lloydminster RCMP are reminding people heading out of town for the August long weekend to be safe on the roads, as well as the water.

“We just want to remind everybody to plan ahead. Make sure that you plan a safe ride to and from wherever you’re going and just to make smart decisions when alcohol is involved,” says Constable Grant Kirzinger.

As of late, the RCMP have seen boat related fatalities and are making sure people know that having a life jacket on board with them is required.

“If you’re gonna be going out on a boat this summer and alcohol is going to be involved it’s always important to have your life preserver with you. It is required by law even without alcohol present, but it’s just another extra reminder that you need to have that with you for safety reasons. ”

The summer months also see an increase in construction on the roads. Kirzinger says to pay attention to the workers on the highways and take their safety into consideration by slowing down to the side of the road.
