Local lacrosse team comes back home with gold

Lloydminster Xtreme will be getting a facelift next season after coming off a playoff run that ended in gold. The teams 9-6 win against the High River Heat was the teams first-ever gold medal win at provincials.

Vice President and Head Coach Graham Murray says the team might have their momentum shifted going into next season as eight players will be leaving.

” We’re going to lose a lot of size and one of the best goaltender in the league. There is going to be some growing pains in the future but we are still going to be a competitive team.”

Murray says the talent that is staying along with some new additions will keep the team in the playoff fold. In prior playoff appearances, the team never made it past the second round in the playoffs.

“Everything kind of just came together,” Says Murray “We had all our vets came back and we had added some key 21 years olds that really helped out. It was just a perfect storm.”

This was Captain Terrix Fischer- Kobes fifth and final year playing with the team. Fischer -Kobe believes the team’s skill this year was better than recent memory.

“This year we had a lot more skill than I’ve ever seen with the Xtreme. We could win any game that we played in.”

Head Coach Graham Murray says the support from the community has been awesome, the gold medal game had between 40-50 locals in attendance.
