Unemployment rates hold steady for Lloydminster region

According to the latest Statistics Canada report, unemployment rates for the region that houses Lloydminster increased by 0.1 per cent for July. Camrose-Drumheller is sitting at an unemployment rate of 4.5 per cent up from June’s 4.4 per cent. Compared to last year in July, unemployment has decreased by 2.6 per cent from 7.1 per cent for the area.

In Saskatchewan, 4,200 jobs were lost in July bringing the unemployment rate up 0.3 per cent to 6.6 per cent. In Alberta, unemployment held steady with a rate of 6.7 per cent up from June’s 6.5 per cent.

Stats Canada says the decrease in employment for Alberta is due to the lack of full-time work, however, part-time work saw an increase creating little change in the rate for July.

In Canada, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 per cent to 5.8 per cent. However, employment did rise by 54,000 jobs mainly in part-time work.
