Local 17-year-old has bottle drive to fund trip to Nationals

Carter Wall and his teammates are looking to raise $40,000 for their trip to Nationals. The Saskatoon Select are headed to Surrey B.C in October and are raising money to help with expenses such as flight and hotel rooms during their stay.

Wall is the only one on his soccer team who is not from Saskatoon. He drives 4 to 5 times a week during the regular season. Well, the rest join together to collect bottles and raise money, Wall is on his own in Lloydminster.

“It’s a big commitment honestly, but it feels good to know I could drive in and be a part of that team and I can help them out. It’s a good commitment, I’ve got a good group of guys to play with.”

Wall says the team will have other ways of raising cash such as steak nights and car washes.

“I’ve had a fair amount of people contact me and telling me they want to donate.”

Wall says he is looking to raise $2,000 to $5,000 by himself through the bottle drive. This is Wall’s second year with the team, last year didn’t go so well as they placed second to last. He thinks it will be different this year.

“I actually see us doing better this year. There are more pools this year so they split the teams up differently and it looks like we got a fairly good pool. Last year we were in a pool called the “death pool”. This year we should be better.”
