New funding announced for local seniors’ homes

Vegreville-Wainwright MP Leon Benoit has announced that senior facilitiesĀ in the area will soon receive financial support for renovations.

The New Horizons for Seniors ProgramĀ has allocated $18,000Ā to Kitscoty and District Seniors to make their washrooms wheelchair-accessible, andĀ over $24,000Ā toĀ the Vermilion Senior CentreĀ to replace their old stage.

Under theĀ NHSP, up to $25,000 in grant funding can be provided to community-based projects that areĀ ledĀ or inspired by seniors.

Since 2006, the NHSP has funded more than 13,000 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada.Ā TheĀ Economic Action Plan 2014 increased funding for the NHSP by $5 million per year, for a total of $50Ā million provided to this program annually.
