Special air quality statement in effect for Lloydminster and area

For the second time in the past two weeks, Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement regarding the B.C. wildfires. The smoke from the forest fires has moved into Alberta causing poor air quality for Lloydminster and surrounding areas, as well as reducing visibility.

The air quality is expected to be irregularly poor for the rest of the week. Environment Canada says during a wildfire, conditions can change quickly and vary hour-by-hour.

Residents may experience symptoms of increased coughing, shortness of breath and throat irritation. People with lung diseases such as asthma are more at risk and generally experience more serious health effects.

For a full list of affected areas and to keep up to date with the air quality index visit Environment Canada’s website.
