Mount Joy preparing for upcoming season

Mount Joy Snow Resort is in full swing of preparations on the facility for the winter season. The snow hill located about half an hour from the city has will open in January and run until March depending on the weather.

President of Board of Directors Dean Peters says their biggest concern for the upcoming season is finding a new generator for the hill.

“One of our primary concerns is to get a generator to power our water pump to supply our snow canons. We had a failure there last winter and we have been working to find a new generator and that is still a work in progress.”

The resort is also looking to install new snow fences, complete maintenance on the rope toes, start dirt work on one of the runs and update their water retention reservoir. The snow resort has received a $2,000 grant from the County of Vermilion River to put towards their terrain parks this fall.

Peters says some of the projects are ongoing such as the snow fences, as well as their snowmaking facility.

On Septemeber 6, Mount Joy will be at Community Registration Night looking for volunteers and signing people up for their programs for the winter.

“We’ll have a table there to sign up people for ski school and those kinds of things and hopefully generate some buzz for the hill. We’re always looking for new members for the Canada Ski Patrol as well.”
