Drive-In movie night proceeds help Lloydminster Rescue Squad

The Lloydminster Rescue Squad and Lloyd Mall have partnered to bring the community together for a retro experience.

On Septemeber 14th, a screening of Show Dogs will be taking place in the mall parking lot. All proceeds from the event will be going back to the Rescue Squad. Deputy Chief Ryan LeBlanc says Lloyd Mall came up with the idea for the event to help both organizations.

“Last year they contacted us and they were seeing if we could help with some traffic. We have developed a good relationship with them and we’re excited to make this an annual event.”

Last year the event had over 300 vehicles and just over $2,000 was brought in. On Facebook, so far 900 people have responded for this year’s event.  LeBlanc says the family based event has something for everyone.

“The movies that are played are kid and family friendly. It’s just a great evening for you to come out and bring the kids. We do have a Kid’s Zone set up, there will be face painting and bouncy houses.”

The movie will begin once it’s dark out, admission will be $10 per vehicle. The Kid’s Zone will be from 5:30-8 p.m. and will cost $2 per person.

Lloyd Rescue is part of around 6 events a year as a host or partner. LeBlanc says these events not only help the organization function but bring them out to meet people outside tragic events.

“It brings the community together and gets them to meet us. It puts a face to people that are responding to these collisions and different emergencies that we attend to. It gives us a different atmosphere. We have to have these events so we’re not always responding to something negative.”
