An advisory committee for the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan has been chosen. There were a total of 17 application received and 11 were selected including four business and property owners in the downtown.
The committee’s main role will be to provide suggestions and opinions on downtown projects that will be implemented. City Councillor Stephanie Munro is the council member chosen to be on the committee. She says the downtown has been long overdue for a remodel.
“Both the input from the business owners, as well as the residents of our community and the arts and culture will definitely be a great impact and hopefully we’ll get the whole community putting in their input whether it’s through surveys or however we’re going to do it. I want to try and engage as many people with DARP as we can.”
The committee also includes three people from the arts, culture, faith and the Aboriginal community alongside three people from the general public.
Munro says for her the most important part of downtown is having people regularly visit.
“I just want to see people come to the downtown whether it’s the clock tower or the border markers. I think your downtown is the heart of the community and wherever you go now whether it’s Whyte Ave or Broadway in Saskatoon those downtowns are what’s really making the city.”
A date for the committee’s first meeting has not been set, but Munro says it should be fairly soon.
