Public Library Gets Statue In Memory of Local Resident

The Lloydminster Public Library has a new permanent resident. The Shaman Drummer is a sculpture crafted in 1985 by Aboriginal artist Jimmy Jacobson. The artwork stands 30″ high, weighs almost 80 lbs, and is made entirely from whale bone, caribou bone, and seal skin. The statue was donated by the Dewald family, in honour of their late mother – longtime Lloydminster resident Kay Shepherd. Head Librarian Ron Gillies was honoured by the donation, and hopes the statue will be the first piece in a wider collection of art in the library.
