Hillmond Central recieveing new books through Adopt-a-School

Hillmond Central School will be receiving new books and educational resources through the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation’s 2018 Adopt a School program.

Coles in Lloyd Mall will be fundraising through a three-week campaign from September 15th to October 7th to help Hillmond have the opportunity to purchase items that are in short supply. Hillmond will also get a 30% discount off books when using program donations.

190 Canadian schools will take part in the campaign to raise funds with the goal to add one book for every child to their often ageing and outdated library collections. Adopt a School is in its tenth year and provided over $1 million to Canadian schools last year.

7 schools in Saskatchewan are also participating in the program using online fundraising. The online platform allows Canadians to support a local school with no donation required. Supporters can share a story on a school’s online page or “heart” a story, which will spark a book donation to the selected school, up to 20 books for each school.

Indigo has raised $28 million dollars to elementary schools across Canada through the Adopt a School and Literacy Fund Grant.  In a press release, Executive Director of the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation Ariel Siller says that children need the ability to acquire newer books in order to enjoy reading.

“We believe that the right book at the right moment can change a child’s life forever and yet too many children in high-needs elementary schools have limited access to books due to insufficient funding. All children deserve access to compelling books that can inspire them to fall in love with reading and to become engaged learners.”
