City unveils Canada 150 Mural

Lloydminster has officially unveiled its Canada 150 Mural at City Hall. Over 100 communities across the country participated in creating a train reflecting their own community as a fabric of Canada.

Education Programmer at the Lloydminster Cultural and Science Centre Kyra Stefanuk has been involved in the project from the start including planning and the workshops.

“I think once the community finally got involved with that whole week of workshops it was really cool to see the excitement grow. Up until that point, I don’t know if everyone understood exactly what we were doing and for them to share in this was super exciting.”

The city held workshops in September for people to create their own tiles for the mosaic. Mayor Gerald Aalbers says this project showcases that art is a beautiful thing no matter who puts it together.

“We have very gifted and talented people in the arts community in the city and that reinforced year after year and this is just another one of the opportunities to being that community together.”

Aalbers adds that the mural will stay on the exterior wall of City Hall for many years to come.
