$5K Donation to Support Mentorship Program: BBBS

Big Brothers Big Sisters Lloydminster will be putting a surprise donation of $5,000 towards the costs of their mentorship program, says Director of Services Delivery Jaqueline Weed.

Weed tells us the mentorship program touches nearly all of their resources, and the money really counts towards their efforts. The organization currently has 27 kids on a wait list for their program.

“It affects everything that we have in the agency and the costs that are associated with that,” says Weed. “It was a nice surprise.”

The mentoring program comes with certain costs around recruiting mentors, training them, matching them with youth in the program and bringing them out into the community.

The organization received the donation last Sunday at a holiday kick-off event at the Russ Robertson Arena. Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services were hosting the event and presented the mentorship program with a cheque for $5,000.

“We’re just too happy to be recognized by Direct Energy for the support that we do and the lives that we change,” adds Weed. “We receive a lot of support from the community year-round, but every little bit helps.”

There are 40 matches right now between mentors and mentees through Big Brothers Big Sisters. Direct Energy says they are happy to support mentorship programs that provide children and youth with strong and enduring relationships.
