Sixteen people charged with car thefts

Sixteen people from Lloydminster and surrounding communities face charges for a string of car thefts.

RCMP from Lloydminster, Kitscoty, Maidstone and Onion Lake detachments participated in an investigation of the crimes after noticing a marked rise of truck thefts in the city, in June. The RCMP say that thefts of cars and trucks in city limits rose from 15 in May, to 29 in June.

The criminals targeted trucks with after-market parts. They advise that anyone with after-market parts consider removing them, as some of them are illegal to own, and others are hard to track if stolen.

“Crime has no borders and these people know this very well,” said Sergeant Juan Huss of Kitscoty RCMP. “It is only by collaborating and working together that we will continue to make progress against crime in our communities.”

The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any additional information, they are asked to call Lloydminster RCMP.
