Britannia-Wilton firefighters return from wildfires in La Ronge

The Britannia-Wilton fire department has returned home.

The department volunteered to fight the flames in La Ronge, and was ordered to return after 12 days to avoid hitting the provincial 14-day maximum for duty. During that time, the firefighters set up sprinklers around the city to prevent flare-ups, and extinguished hot spots.

Captain Aaron Buckingham thanked the community of La Ronge for sorting out the logistics of hosting the department.

“The thing that people don’t realize about a situation or operation like this, is the logistics of it,” said Buckingham. “The community of La Ronge was great. They ran everything as best they could as everyone was evacuated. At one point, they had the bank manager running the till at the Co-op Grocery Store.”

Buckingham also says that if the need arises again, the fire department will be happy to return to La Ronge.
