RCMP rescue male involved in vehicle theft

Onion Lake RCMP saves the life of a suspected car thief after chasing him into a snow-coveredĀ field. The police say they pulled over a car on December 3, three people were arrested, while the driver of the vehicle ran.

RCMP North Battleford Dog Handler Corporal Colin Pyne and Police Service Dog Soap joined withĀ Onion Lake officer Constable Michael Page to find the driver. Police say the officers spent two and a half hours, walking 12 km through a snow-filled wooded area to find the suspect in minus 8 temperature.

RCMP found the man lightly dressed in the middle of the woodsĀ north of 797 Highway and west of Boundary Road. Officers say they assisted the male after he had collapsed on the way back. While waiting for EMS to arrive, the officers took off the drivers wet jacket and shoes and covered him with an emergency blanket.

RCMP says paramedics treated him for low blood sugar and hypothermia, they say the driver had 5 to 10 minutes before going into a diabetic coma and could have died if not found.

The driver of the vehicle is facing various charges.
