Mount Joy on track to open in new year

Mount Joy Snow Resort’s generator will be up and running for the upcoming ski season. Thanks to some repairs to their generator, the hill is expecting to open on January 5.

The generator helps power a water pump used in creating snow. The water pump will also need restarting but is expected to be ready for their opening date.

Two generators were donated towards the project and were taken apart to build into one. Each generator used in the rebuild weighs about 12,000 lb.

The recent warm weather has caused lots of the snow to melt around the Lloydminster area and put the hill’s snowmaking on hold. With a generator for their snow cannon, the hill and terrain park aims to be open on time.

The ski hill is entering its 53rd season and offers ski and snowboard lessons through their Ski and Snowboard School. They offer lessons with fully certified Canadian Ski Instructor Alliance (CSIA) ski instructors and Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) snowboard instructors.
