City Hall names new Fire Chief

Jordan Newton has been named Lloydminster’s Fire Chief.

Newton was named to the position at city council’s Monday, June 27 meeting, after serving in the position since Todd Gustavson, the city’s former Fire Chief, passed away on April 17.

Newton says he plans to carry on Gustavson’s legacy.

“Late Fire Chief Todd Gustavson taught me a lot,” Newton said. “He took me under his wing many years ago, and started teaching me the role. I believe he’d be happy, and proud of the way that we’ll carry on.”

Glenn Carroll, the City Manager, says Newton was chosen for the role because of his performance as Acting Fire Chief.

“After Jordan [was] in the acting role for a period of time, we witnessed him do a fantastic job,” Carroll said. “That discussion [of] how he did his job was with the RCMP, and we interviewed as many members of the fire department as we could.”

Newton joined the fire department in 2010, and was promoted to deputy chief in 2013.
