U18 Western Championships set to go this weekend in Lloydminster

Lloydminster will host the U18 Western B level Championship Softball tournament this weekend.

Starting Friday, July 31, women’s and men’s provincial teams from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and B.C. will play in Legion Ball park in the hopes of being crowned the western champion. As the host team, the Blues will be the only club team in the tournament.

Brad Zerr, chair of the Host Committee, says the team will be competitive on the strength of their offence.

“I think this group has really good bats,” Zerr said. “Their offence has produced over the years handily. Two years ago, they were the only club to score runs on the eventual U16 A national silver medalists from Alberta.”

The tournament will start Friday morning, and last until Monday, August 3, with the final set for 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 for a day pass, and $25 for a full weekend pass. For a full schedule of games, see www.lloydminsterminorball.ca/u18-westerns/schedule/.
