City Hall releases census results

The City of Lloydminster has released their census data.

This year’s figures shows that the city’s population sits at 31,377 residents, a drop of just over 100 from 2013. 19,740 of those live on the Alberta side, while 11,637 live on the Saskatchewan side.

Amy Smart, General Manager of Legislative Services said that doing the census online helped the city save money.

“Our enumerators and our Census Coordinator did an excellent job,” said Smart. “With so many people taking advantage of the online option, we were able to complete the census on time and under budget. We thank residents for taking the time to help us collect this vitally important data. Future grant funding and strategic municipal planning requires accurate, up-to-date population figures, which we were able to deliver in the 2015 status.

While Alberta’s side of the city lost residents since 2013, Saskatchewan’s actually grew by 189 people. Grant said she wouldn’t speculate on the cause of the increase.

The city will undergo another census in the fall, due to the federal election.
