Bobcats sign Head Coach, GM to five-year contract

The Lloydminster Bobcats have signed Head Coach and GM Nigel Dube to a five-year contract. In a release, the team says that Dube has demonstrated great leadership skills during a transition period for the team. Dube has only been here for a short few months but is excited to call Lloydminster home.

“When I got here, we discussed with the board too that there’s going to be a process to get where we’re going to get to. I’m not looking to take the whole five years to get where we need to, but I also want to be around long after we build the foundation of success, an continue it on,” says Dube.

Dube is eager to start making the Bobcats more successful. The recent trade deadline brought a number of changes to the team, which Dube calls a big piece of building on their success.

“As a whole, I think the on-ice product will continue to work around the clock and on the rinks to find the prospects we’re looking for and to create a culture off the ice that not only the players but the families, fans and billets want to be a part of.”

Dube is also excited to become more involved in the community. He points to the players going out into schools and interacting with kids as an example. Dube will be living here year-round and hopes to stay involved with the happenings of Lloydminster.

“Throughout the summer if there’s a community event going on, I want to be active at it and be there support it. I want to be an active member that wants to give back and enjoys giving back to the community.”

Ultimately, Dube looks forward to producing a winning team. But when it comes to success, Dube says that winning off the ice matters just as much as winning on the ice.

“They go hand in hand, when you can create success off the ice it’s directly related to the success you can have on the ice. For us, that’s a big part of where we want to go and where we need to get to, and I think that’s also a big part of what these fans deserve in Lloydminster.”

The Bobcats board says they are and are confident in his abilities, and believe that Dube reflects the core values that will drive their team to success in the future.
