Local pizza shops raise money for child mentoring programs

No one should be worrying about pineapples on National Pizza Day when Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster partners with local pizza shops. On February 9th, $1 from every pizza you buy from any of five different local pizza restaurants will go towards the BBBS mentoring programmings.

This is the second year the organization has run the event. Last year around $700 dollars was raised towards the mentoring programs. Fundraising coordinator Lisa Shendaruk says this event has become the organizations “baby” as it has helped BBBS develop partnerships in the community.

“They were so willing and excited to partner with us and be on board to do this. I have such great reactions from all the pizza places I have spoken to.”

With BBBS running many fundraisers throughout the year, Shendaruk says the importance is huge in the organization’s efforts to impact young peoples lives in the community.

“We raise half of our budget every year to maintain all the children’s mentoring programs that we provide to this community, so every fundraiser we do is important to our agency.”

On National Pizza Day the stores participating in the fundraiser are Panago Pizza, Domino’s Pizza, TJ’s Pizza, Red Swan Pizza and Canadian Pizza Unlimited.
