Vermilion RCMP investigating oilfield facility theft, vandalism

Mounties in Vermilion are investigating vandalism and theft at an oilfield facility. Around 9 p.m. on February 15, unknown persons entered a facility around Highway 881 and Range Road 91. While trying to steal copper wire, extensive damage was caused to the facility’s electrical wiring.

This damage released crude oil effluent, and damages are estimated at around $250 000.00 to $300 000.00. The product released was contained to the lease site by existing environmental protections and is being remediated. Witnesses report seeing an older blue four-door Dodge truck with tinted windows in the area at the time of the offence.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Vermilion RCMP at (780) 853-4441 or call your local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app.
