Lakeland Students show off skills at the first Look Good, Feel Good showcase

Students in Lakeland’sesthetician and styling program got a chance to showcase their work on Monday. During the college’s Wellness Fair, the first Look Good, Feel Good Hairstyling and Esthetician Transformation Showcase was hosted by Lakeland’s School of Health & Wellness.

The runway-style event, students in Lakeland College’s esthetician and hairstyling programs will put the skills they learned throughout the year into action. The students got to show off the product of their skills in front of a number of industry professionals. Deb Minish, chair of Health and Wellness at Lakeland College, says the industry in Lloydminster is very supportive of the program.

“We’re really fortunate that they like to see what our students do, and they hire them based on that. They’re always looking to hire our students right out of college,” says Minish.

Students in the program put lots of work into preparing for the showcase; between choosing their models and working with them to demonstrate their skills, students put in many hours for this. Instructors also put in a lot of work organizing it under a new wing, taking it out of the business sphere and putting it under health and wellness. Minish says this was to help people feel good in different ways.

“Today is Health and Wellness Day here at the college, so we wanted to tie it in with that. We always want to do something that makes people feel good, and not necessarily about feeling good on the inside,” says Minish. The showcase serves as both a look at the student’s skills and their futures.
