Alberta election called for April 16

Alberta voters will soon be heading to the polls as the election is now four weeks away.

NDP leader Rachel Notley said at a press conference this morning, “Our cabinet has approved an order in council and it was signed this morning by the Lieutenant Governor. I’m pleased to announce that Albertans will go to the polls on April 16th.”

A number of ridings have been redrawn since the last election in 2015. Vermilion-Lloydminster now includes Wainwright, and Bonnyville-Cold Lake now includes St. Paul. The candidates who have entered the race are listed below.

Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright: No incumbent

UCP: Garth Rowswell
NDP: Ryan Clarke

Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul: David Hanson incumbent

NDP: Kari Whan
UCP: David Hanson
AP: Glenn Anderson

Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville: Jessica Littlewood incumbent

NDP: Jessica Littlewood

AA: Ronald Malowany
FCP: Malcolm Stinson
Green: Rebecca Trotter
UCP: Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk

Advanced polling will run from April 9-13. Longtime Progressive Conservative MLA Dr. Richard Starke has decided not to seek re-election, leaving an open seat for the new riding of Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright.
