Ronald McDonald House to hold Red Shoe Walk in Lloydminster

Ronald McDonald House is gearing up for their Red Shoe Walk.

The walk is being held in eight communities across the province, including Lloydminster, to celebrate the house’s 30th anniversary, and to raise money for the work the house in Saskatoon does.

The house allows families whose children are sick and need hospital treatment to stay there for $10 a night. Michelle Miles, chairperson of Lloydminster’s walk, used the house when her son was diagnosed with cancer and received treatment in Saskatoon. She says her focus isn’t on the money.

“Our main focus is awareness, because I think a lot of people don’t realize that it’s a support that’s available to you,” Miles said. “People out there have misconceptions about the house. Like a lot of people think that if you are not low-income then you can’t stay there, which is completely false. It is open to anybody who meets the criteria of having a sick child… We really want to make people aware that it is available, and it’s a resource that’s helpful for you and your family.

The walk is being held Thursday, September 13, in Bud Miller Park, with registration starting at 12 p.m, and the walk kicking off at 1:30.
