With the Alberta election only a couple of weeks away many residents will get the chance to vote. Anyone who is 18 and lives in Alberta can register to vote at the polls, or at the Returning Office until April 6. For the riding of Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright, that is located at 104 3602 51 avenue in Lloydminster.
To vote, you must be a Canadian citizen and an ordinary resident of Alberta. You can only have one ordinary residence and it’s classified as “the place where the person lives and sleeps and to which, when the person is absent from it, the person intends to return”. It ends when you take up residence anywhere outside of Alberta. Voters will also need to prove their address with government-issued ID or documents, and may verify it with something like a bank statement or utility bill.
A number of advance polling stations are in the riding, running from Tuesday, April 9, until Saturday, April 13. They’re barrier-free and open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

Vermilion Elks Hall, 5026 49 avenue
Lloydminster Returning Office, 104 3602 51 avenue
Advance polls are also open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at both Lakeland College campuses. Vermilion Campus at 5707 College Drive will have advance polls from April 9 until April 10. Loydminster’s campus at 2602 59 avenue will have advance polls open from April 11 until April 12. Elections Alberta says there is no longer going to be an advance poll at Suncor Base Plant as was advertised and apologizes for the inconvenience.
For the first time, Elections Alberta will allow Albertans to cast a vote anywhere in the province for their home riding. This means students are able to cast a ballot for their home riding. This is only available during advance polls and on election day they must cast a vote at a polling station in their electoral district.
Anyone away during advance polls or on election day can request a mail-in ballot from Elections Alberta. They’re typically for people who cannot physically get to a polling station, live in a remote area or are incarcerated. Elections officers, candidates, scrutineers or official agents may also apply for a special ballot. Voters can apply for one online or at their local returning office, and they must be received by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 to be counted.
Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright currently has 25 polling stations on election day. They’re divided up among 85 areas assigned to them. They’re open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.
