Locals are headed to Football Canada Cup

Three local high school football players are considered among the top 40 in the province. The boys were chosen from an original group of 380 players who attended the tryouts in January.

Quarterback Anton Amundrud, running back Matthew Morin and offensive lineman Clay Vetter will be representing Team Alberta U18 this July in Kingston, Ontario for the Football Canada Cup.

Last year in Calgary, the U18 team finished with the silver medal with a loss in the final to Team Saskatchewan.

80 players met last weekend in Calgary for a chance to represent the province on either the U17 and U18 teams. Five Lloydminster players won’t be headed to Kingston but will instead play against local high school teams in Maui, Hawaii in August.

Offensive Lineman Lucas Seffern, Line Backer Josh Chapelski and Defensive Backs Ryan Feist and Dillon Orieux made Team Alberta for the Pacific Challenge. Football Alberta says the U17 team is a development squad for players who were close to making this years U18 team and born in 2003. The U17 players will have a chance at the U18 team next year.

The team will play a scrimmage versus Team Saskatchewan U17 in Red Deer on June 16 before heading to Hawaii.
