Seasonal street sweeping to begin in Lloydminster

Lloydminster has begun seasonal street sweeping operations. Street sweeping is starting in the downtown and main arterial routes while residential sweeping will begin on May 6. Residential street sweeping follows curbside collection zoning, beginning in the Blue Zone, followed by the Green Zone, Yellow Zone, Pink Zone and finally the Orange Zone.

In residential areas, sweeping operations are typically carried out between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, after 10 p.m. Signs will be posted in residential neighbourhoods advising residents at least 36 hours before sweeping operations. If signs stay posted prior to the weekend, residents may park their vehicles on the street during the weekend. However, vehicles must be removed the following Monday to allow street sweeping to continue.

In residential areas, sweeping is usually carried out between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., Monday to Friday before moving to other areas for the rest of the night. Director of transportation services, Dave Henning, says that residents may help street-sweeping go a bit quicker if they’re mindful with their collection carts.

“To expedite sweeping operations, we are asking residents to set out waste and organics carts after 7 p.m. the day before pickup and have them removed by 7 p.m. the same day of the pickup,” says Henning.

To allow workers to efficiently complete sweeping operations, the city asks residents to remove vehicles and curbside collection carts ahead of street sweeping operations. Updates on the progress and location of street sweeping operations will be provided on the city’s website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution around street sweepers and keep a distance of eight metres from all equipment. Residents with questions about the street sweeping program are asked to call (780) 874-3700. Street-cleaning aims to reduce debris entering stormwater collection systems, reduce dust and provide clean roadways.
