May Cinema 6 sees big weekend, plans further upgrades

Theatres across the country had a big weekend, and Lloydminster’s was no exception. May Cinema 6 experienced sold-out showings for Avengers: Endgame throughout the weekend.

The film broke records by surpassing $1.2 billion US globally its first weekend at the box office. Folks in Lloydminster lined up down the street to catch the film. While general manager of May Theatres, Noel May, hasn’t crunched the numbers yet, he recalls it being a very successful weekend for ticket sales with every show being sold out.

“We did have a lot of line-ups because we haven’t yet created the ability to sell pre-sale tickets online. I know a lot of the bigger centres had some of those sold out weeks ago,” says May.

May says they’ll be working on creating pre-sale capability for this fall. Recently, May Cinema 6 upgraded seating in two auditoriums with recliners. The theatre plans to upgrade all of the theatre’s other seats with full back vinyl rockers, and install credit and debit support.

May says that the community’s response to the new seating has been very positive. He anticipates the summer to be a busy one for the theatre with many anticipated blockbusters scheduled. The theatre is excited to for the upcoming films they’ll show and May is happy to upgrade for the community.

“It’s been a good response from the community, and they’ve supported us for so long. We’re putting money in, and time in for the community who’s been there to support us.”
