Lloydminster residents are advised to take precautions against ticks when outside. With the warmer weather comes an increase in tick bites for those spending time outside, according to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health.
The insects are usually prevalent in tall grass, brush or wooded areas from early spring until October. Some precautionary measures that residents can take include taking a shower within two hours of being outside to wash off any loose ticks and do a full body check on yourself, kids and pets.
Saskatchewan reminds residents that the risk for Lyme disease carried by black-legged ticks is low in the province. Most ticks found in Saskatchewan are the American dog tick, which is not capable of transmitting Lyme disease to people.
