Border Town Harley Owner’s Group prepares for Toy Run

The Border Town Harley Owner’s Group chapter is gearing up for their fifth annual Toy Run.

The run is taking place on September 19th, starting with a pancake breakfast at 9, followed by the ride at noon, and a cabaret at Rolling Greens Golf Club in the evening, featuring the Prairie Dogs. The cabaret is a new addition this year, and operations manager Jon Buhnai explains why they decided to add it.

“I’m a firm believer [that] if you’re not changing things up and expanding, you’re just kind of spinning your wheels,” Buhnai said. “Every year we’ve added something more to the run, whether it be adding from one charity to donate to to two or three, and going a little further with the run, or going a little shorter, so we just wanted to give a little bit more to our sponsors, and also to the people that come on the run, and try to have a little fun with it.”

All proceeds from the run will be going to the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre, Kidsport, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Buhnai says the club wants to help local charities.

“We said right from the start with this Toy Run that we want to support the kids in [Lloydminster] and we want to keep it fairly local,” he said. “We had a list about 40 long of local charities, and we went through them all… and the three of them really seemed to fit that local criteria, and later we find out that the three of them actually work together in different areas too. So it’s a real good fit in my eyes.”

Buhnai also says his goal is to beat last year’s total of $60,000.

Registration costs $30, and can be done in the parking lot of Edge Harley Davidson the morning of the ride. Tickets to the cabaret only cost $20.

Anyone who wishes to donate toys or money to the run can contact Buhnai at (780) 808-0184 or message the Harley Owner’s Group’s Facebook page.
