First-of-its-kind Lloydminster Pet Expo coming in June

Animal lovers of Lloydminster can look forward to a special exhibition in June. The Lloydminster Pet Expo, presented by the Lloydminster Pet Pad, is bringing a variety of pets and activities to the Servus Sports Centre.

Attendants will be able to watch dogs perform in a dock diving competition, as well as a showing of a local agility club. The Lloydminster Pet Pad will also be present giving attendees deals on pet products. Both local veterinary clinics will be present along with the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association. Puppy Luv will also be present to share about dog training.

The Lloydminster and District SPCA and Furbabies Furever Homes are among organizations participating. While pets are barred from being brought into the Servus Sports Centre, a number of furry friends such as hamsters, guinea pigs and bunnies will be present. The event is aiming to be a networking opportunity for local animal lovers. Owner and operator of Pet Pad, Nancy Hippe, says it’s all for the love of animals.

“The one thing that pets do is that they put a smile on everybody’s face. It doesn’t matter how bad of a day you have. [When] you come home to your dog or your cat or your bird or your buddy, who puts a smile on your face? Who loves you no matter what you’re about? It’s your pets,” says Hippe.

Hippe hopes the expo can become an annual event to help the community learn more about living with their pets. The event is free and runs the weekend of June 8 and 9, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and then from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
