Newly formed R.M. fire department receives $25,000

The R.M. of North Battleford’s fire department continues to receive the communities support with a recent donation of $25,000.

With the fire department only being two months old, Chief Neil Good says there is a lengthy list of purchases but the safety of the volunteers is among the top.

“So we’re going to put the money towards is what is called a washer extractor. This machine will remove toxins from our turnout out gear. This is very important to the health of our firefighters as today’s fires have chemicals that will have long term effects.”

The recent donation from Parrish & Heimbecker Limited comes after the R.M. began a start-up fundraiser asking local commercial and farming businesses for help with costs. The municipality says the initial capital costs are estimated at $500,000.

“We appreciate this donation so very much. [Also, We have a gentleman and his family who donated $1,000] towards a rescue vehicle and he has put out a challenge out there to other farmers and ratepayers in the R.M. of North Battleford to meet or beat his donation.”

The municipality transitioned to their own volunteer fire department after services with the city ended on March 31.
