Husky is aiming to increase production at its Lloydminster Upgrader. The company held its Investor Day in Toronto on May 28 featuring an update from Jeff Rinker, Senior Vice President, Downstream. Improvements coming to the Upgrader include implementing a debottlenecking project in mid-2020 that will allow Husky to increase diesel production to 9,800 bbl/d from 6,000 bbls/d.
As part of that, the heavy crude processing capacity at the Upgrader will increase to 81,500 bbl/d from about 80,000 bbl/d now. The company considers the Upgrader and its Lloydminster operations a key part of what it calls their integrated corridor, with the Downstream segment designed to complement its heavy oil production.
Last winter, the company also announced a number of steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) projects in the Lloydminster area. Spruce Lake East was the third project planned for the area. The company hopes to have the project operating by late 2021, with one of its Dee Valley projects near Maidstone expected to come online in the third quarter of 2019.
