Maidstone traffic stop lead to drug charges

RCMP says a Cold Lake man was arrested after drugs were allegedly found in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Maidstone. On May 30, 25-year-old Michael Wardrop was pulled over by police for speeding past a cop car with the emergency lights on.

RCMP says a Police Service Dog was brought to the vehicle after an officer called in assistance after noticing signs when speaking to the driver. During the investigation, police found drugs, a loaded gun and $8,000 in cash.

Wardrop received seven different charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm. Wardrop will head to Lloydminster provincial court on June 3.
