Lloydminster offers opportunity for block parties

With the summer season in full force, the city offers a number of ways for residents to have fun with their neighbourhoods. Block parties are a way residents can find ways to enjoy the outdoors with their local community. The city’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) department has available tools for residents wishing to host community block parties, through their Block Party Kit.

The kits include a variety of equipment for all age groups to encourage activity and friendship connections. They also come with optional additional large items to sign out by request. The kits are not only available for neighbourhood block parties but for group gatherings, special events, picnics and youth groups. The number of kits is limited and not guaranteed to be available and will come on a first come first serve basis.

Kits may also only be utilized for one-day events and can be picked up after all the required application forms are completed and signed. The city says that hosting a party in your own yard, house or garage does not need the FCSS Lloydminster Neighbourhood Block Party Permit and Waiver of Liability and Release form as it occurs on private property. However, they are required for events on a public roadway or space.

This permit ensures that the event meets all federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations.
Failure to obtain a permit before an event starting may lead to organizers being fined and/or the event being stopped. The permit should be completed and submitted a minimum of 15 business days before the event. Alcohol consumption in a park, street or public space requires an additional 4 million liability insurance coverage and separate event permit.
