Water and sewer replacement begins this week

Wednesday, June 5, will see the beginning of a major construction project. In conjunction with Rusway Construction Ltd., the city will begin the 2019 Water and Sewer Replacement Program on 47 avenue between 41 street and 44 street. The project will see the removal and replacement of water, sanitary and storm sewer mains.

Reconstruction of the road structure, including the removal and replacement of curb, gutter and asphalt is also included. A construction fence will be installed around the perimeter of the site which will include 47 avenue from the alley south of 41 street to 44 street. Street access for vehicle parking will be unavailable during the construction project.

The intersections of 47 avenue and 41 to 43 street will be a part of the construction zone and isolated from both pedestrians and vehicle traffic. For a portion of the project, 44 street (Highway 16) will be closed for the construction of the new sanitary main. The dog park located at 41 street and 47 avenue will remain open throughout construction; however, parking will not be permitted inside the construction zone. Pet owners will have pedestrian access to the park along the east side of 47 avenue outside the construction fence.

School buses, garbage collection and emergency services have been notified of the construction and will keep operating throughout construction. Residents are advised to follow marked detour routes and drive cautiously when passing construction crews. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of September, weather permitting.
